Iraq situation report, by 7 US soldiers

This is the most believable and coherent account I've read so far of the situation on the ground in Iraq. Comments are interesting too.

Two of this NYTimes op-ed piece's authors died September 10. Sgt. Omar Mora and co-author Sgt. Yance T. Gray died along with 5 other soldiers and 2 detainees in a vehicle accident, but it would be just as fair to say they died of executive privilege.

GWB gave a feel-good speech tonight about how everything is going so well in Iraq. He should just declare victory and bring the troops home then. And there's more heroin coming out of Afghanistan than ever, so either that was the objective of that war or else it's failed to produce positive results as well. I sure hope we can get him out of office before he starts another war with Iran or Eritria.

The DC protest is coming up on the 15th. I'm sure Alternet will cover that event and so will the streams of images at YouTube and Flickr.

Happy Birthday Art Crimes

Art Crimes is 13 years old today, believe it or not.

In 1994, there were no search engines, no commercial websites, and putting images on the web was a brand new idea. The web was primarily focused then on what scientists and academics were interested in, because they were the ones with access to the Internet. Art Crimes was one of a handful of art sites, and the first website for graffiti art, although Kel1st and Mare139 had a website for their activities already by then, and Taiteiden Rajamailla (the first Finnish graffiti site) and I Can Fly crew's site were in the works even then.

Websites were so newsworthy in 1994 that Newsweek magazine did features on them, showing Art Crimes in one of its October 1994 issues. Writers started emailing me to say they read about the site at their dentist's office and decided to get online so they could see it. It was amazingly complicated to get online access then too, so kudos to everyone who made the effort.

Thanks to everyone who's been along for the ride, as well. Your enthusiasm, your purchases from our store, your generosity with your products and your photos have kept the site going. Thanks especially to everyone who helped and encouraged me over the years. I am honored by your support and awed by your talents.

CREATE A DESIGN FOR THE NEW SERIES OF SHAMELESS AND GET IT ON TV

Here?s your chance to make your mark on the new series of Shameless. We?re asking you to create a design that will end up featured as a piece of graffiti on the set of the Chatsworth Estate.

Entering is easy. All you need to do is follow the steps below.

Step 1: Create a design. This can be a hand drawn sketch or something you?ve on your computer using photoshop, illustrator, etc.

Step 2: Alternatively you can create a design using any online application. For example

Graffiti Creator - http://www.graffiticreator.net
Grafitti Playdo - http://graffiti.playdo.com

Step 3: Email in JPG of your final design (along with your contact details) to shamelessgraffiti@channel4.co.uk

For more information visit http://www.channel4.com/shameless

[Naturally they want the winner to paint the winning piece on the set, so if you're not in England that might be impossible. They don't mention giving credit, payment, or expenses, so be sure to get details in writing. - Susan]
