EGYPTIAN INTERNATIONAL TRADE POINT

(EITP)

EITP ESTABLISHMENT :

Egypt has been chosen to be among the first 19 countries to establish a Pilot Trade Point by UNCTAD on the occasion of issuing "Cartagena's Commitment" In March 1993 , the Egyptian government approved to establish the Egyptian Trade Point at the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade to be a part of The Global Trade Point Network ( GTPN ) which was officially established in Columbus, Ohio in October 1994 by ministers and senior officials from 140 countries at the United Nations International Symposium on Trade Efficiency.

STRUCTURE :

1. EITP is connected through Internet to The Global Trade Point Network (GTPN) which connects 99 trade points in 90 nations all over the world.

2. EITP has established a highway network through AT&T to communicate and link all Egyptian commercial representation offices all over the world with Cairo EITP.

3. EITP headquarters includes the electronic local network (LAN) and its services provided (customs , banking , insurance , transportation , packaging , quality control , ...... etc.).There are participants representing services providers present physically in the trade point center to serve any businessman.

4. Sub-Trade Points are going to be established to help businessmen and enterprises present in the most active industrial and commercial cities. As a start, Alexandria Trade Point is expected to begin operation on April 1996 .The Sixth of October and Tenth of Ramadan Trade Points are planned to operate within six months.

5. There are several conventions bind the Egyptian Trade Point with many other international information centers such as International Trade Center (ITC) , Business Opportunity Intelligence Service (BOIS), and also with many national information centers and Businessmen associations.

FUNCTIONS & ACTIVITIES :

1. EITP receives by E-mail the business opportunities through highway network through Internet from GTPN or from commercial representatives net through AT&T net .EITP ensures the accuracy and validity of these opportunities before disseminating and distributing them to various enterprises that can make use of it. The rate of actual business opportunities ranges from 300 to 400 opportunities per month.

2. EITP covers not only the trade transactions stage , but also the pre-transactional activities . For any successful trade transaction , traders need to possess (at an earlier stage) a certain level of key trade data including market information (company and product information , opportunities of buying / selling), transportation options and prices , insurance facilities , credit availability , customs requirements , import / export regulations on the national and international levels, .....etc.. So the EITP can answer most of the inquiries received from Egyptian businessmen and from the foreign markets. The daily rate of inquiries is about 8-10 inquiries.

3. EITP has technical staff ( S.W.&H.W.) who is responsible for analyzing , designing and developing all software systems under the name POTIC ( bi-lingually:English/ Arabic) , they also have distinct experience in the field of highways communication networks.

The UNCTAD has chosen the Director of EITP to be among the 11 experts to attend the Experts Meeting for Information Technology for TP's held last June.
