THE GLOBAL AQUACULTURE NETWORK - INFORMATION

PROMOTING EFFICIENCY WITHIN THE SHRIMP INDUSTRY

Overview

The aquaculture network is designed to be used to collect, process and disseminate market, product, technical and research and development information.

Marketing and product technical information

The importance of the international shrimp trade makes accurate and up-to-date commercial information on trade vital. Reliable market information is a key ingredient for successful trade of shrimp and shrimp products. Supporting the trade network will be a de-centralised computerized database which will provide a range of international shrimp market indicators from monthly production and trade statistics to supply and demand figures as well as other general economic data related to the shrimp industry. As well as market information the network will provide statistical analysis on a range of products used in production, including regional usage and technical information on product quality and reliability as assessed by laboratory and field trials.

Research and development technology transfer

Effective collection and access to information is an integral part of research. Lack of access to information causes a serious problem for researchers and experts. The network will address the needs of scientists, researchers and all those who need access to latest R&D by establishing an international database network to facilitate the global dissemination of scientific and technical information. The service will also provide discussion forums for researchers and experts to exchange ideas.

Shrimp directory

The network will offer a registry encompassing the vertical integration of the industry, from production through to trading; suppliers through to manufacturers; institutions/universities through to government agencies and all information sources from databanks to journals. Through its broad array of information services, the network will help customers gain wider exposure to the world shrimp community and to overcome the limitations experienced in present information management systems.
