The Statusbar

The statusbar at the bottom of the window displays messages relating to network activity, and also contains a meter showing the progress of the page currently being loaded and a security icon. When the cursor is over a link, the statusbar shows the target of the link. Some pages contain JavaScript code that writes messages into the statusbar. To prevent pages from writing to the statusbar, uncheck the Allow statusbar messages option, described in the Section called Filtering in the chapter called Setting Galeon Preferences.

The security icon is located in the far right of the statusbar. When the security icon field displays an open lock, the connection to the current web server is not encrypted, and it is possible for eavesdroppers to see sensitive information (such as addresses or credit card numbers) in transit. When the field displays a closed lock, the connection is encrypted.
