Tabbed Browsing

Galeon's "tabbed browsing" feature can help you avoid cluttering your desktop with browser windows. Multiple pages can be stored in a single Galeon window, and you can switch between them with a click of the mouse. The behavior of the tabbed browsing mode can be configured in the "Tabs" page of the Preferences Window.

To start using tabs, either create a new tab through the File menu or open a link in a new tab by right-clicking it and choosing the Open in a new tab item from the context menu. By default, a tab listing will appear below the toolbar at the top of the window. You can also drag links onto a tab to have that link loaded in a particular tabbed window. This is handy if you want to load a page in a different tab than the one you are currently viewing but don't necessarily want to open a new tab.

You can switch to different pages by clicking on their corresponding tabs. When the tab listing becomes too long to fit in the window, arrows will appear at its right, allowing you to scroll through the listing. Additionally, right-clicking on a tab will display a menu containing all of the tabs. The Previous tab and Next tab menu items in the Tab menu allow you to jump to the previous or next tab in the listing. Finally, you can jump directly to a tab by typing Alt-[0-9] where 1 is the first page and 0 is the tenth page.

You can close tabs either by making them active and then using the Close item from the File menu, or by clicking the small "X" button that (configurably) appears at the right edge of each tab.

Tabs can also be moved, either to different positions in the listing or to different windows altogether. The easiest way to do this is by holding the left mouse button down on a tab and dragging it either to another tab, another window, or onto the desktop. Alternately, you can use the Move tab left / up and Move tab right / down menu items in the Tab menu to shift a tab within its current tab listing. The Detach tab item will move the currently selected tab into a new window, and the Move tab to another window submenu can be used to move the tab to a specified window.

Clicking on a tab with the right mouse button will display a context menu allowing you to perform several actions specific to that tab, or to switch to another tab in the listing.
