Customization

To change the application settings, select Preferences from the Settings menu. This opens the Preferences dialog.

The properties in the Proxy tab are:

• Use proxy If this button is checked, files will be downloaded using a proxy server.

• Username Enter the user name for the proxy server.

• Password Enter the password for the proxy server.

• HTTP Enter the host name or IP address of the proxy server to use for HTTP transfers.

• FTP Enter the host name or IP address of the proxy server to use for FTP transfers.

• HTTPS Enter the host name or IP address of the proxy server to use for HTTPS transfers.

The properties in the Auto tab are:

• Interface to connect Enter the network interface to use for all transfers. This is typically ppp0 for modem connection or eth0 for ethernet connection.

• Check interface time (ms) This determines how often the network interface is checked for availability. When the interface becomes available, downloads will be automatically started if possible.

• Simultaneous This determines the maximum number of automatic downloads which will be in progress at any given time. When this limit is reached, GTransferManager will wait for one of the currently running downloads to finish before starting a new one. You can still start more downloads manually if you want.

• Manual stop disables auto download If this button is checked, manually stopping a URL transfer will set the disable auto download flag in the URL properties. This prevents the URL transfer from being automatically restarted.

• Stop download on link loss If you loose the connection to the Internet the download will stop if this is checked.

• Remember whether auto download is pauseIf this is unchecked when you start the application again the pause automatic download will be disabled. But you check it then the state will be remembered between sessions.

The properties in the Download tab are:

• Default download dir This is the download dir used if it is not override when you add a new download and when all the URL download dir match fails.

• Timeout (seconds) Timeout used when wget tries to connect to the server to retrieve the file.

• Number retries This the number of times it tries to retry the download

• Use passive FTP If defines if wget should use passive FTP when talking with FTP servers.

• Presume Protocol You can have the protocol already filled in when you click on the new download or the numeric download.

• Run command when all downloads completed The application runs a command for you when all the downloads are complete. For instance you could have a command to send an email to alert that all the downloads are done.

The properties in the Directories tab are:

• Insert You can insert a new URL pattern and the download dir associated with it. The URL pattern matching is done using glob. This allows for you to just drop URL's on the application and the application decides the download dir from the URL. For instance "*gnome*" into "~/download/gnome" and "*tar.gz" into "~/download/source".

• Edit Edits one of the entries. You can edit the URL pattern or the download dir associated with the URL pattern.

• Delete Deletes an entry from the list.

The properties in the Confirmations tab are:

• Overriding download dir on URL addition dialogs changes default download dir If you check this it changes download dir everytime you do it on the URL addition dialogs.

• Confirm remove when transfer incomplete If you check this the application asks if you really want to remove the incomplete downloads.

• Confirm remove completed transfers If this you check this the application asks if you really want to remove the complete transfers.

• Confirm restart If you check this the application asks before a restart if you really want to do it. This is important because you loose the already downloaded part of the file.

• Confirm drag and drop URL If you check this you will be asked every time you drop and URL if you want to add and you can change the default download dir, proxy and auto download options.

The properties in the Display tab are:

• Toolbar style You can have text, icons or both in the toolbar.

• File list refresh rate (ms) Defines the time used between checks to the running downloads to update statistics information.

• Show list statistics If you check this you will see the percentage done of the download and the remaining time to the end of the download in the list of downloads.

• Show page statistics If you check this you will see the information about the selected file in the download info page (left part of the application).

• Auto hide download info page If you check this the download info page will hide it self after the seconds defined in the Auto hide download info page timeout (ms). You can show it from the toolbar and with this option it will go away after the defined time.

The properties in the Sound tab are:

• Use sound If you check this the application will make a sound when you add a new URL to download, when a download is started and when a download is completed.

• Use beep If you check this the application will make a beep when you add a new URL to download, when a download is started and when a download is completed.

After you have made all the changes you want, click on OK to apply the changes and close the Preferences dialog. You can also click on the Apply to update the preferences of the application but doesn't close the window. To cancel the changes and return to previous values, click the Close button.
