Viiala is located centrally in the triangle between the largest Finnish cities, Helsinki, Turku and Tampere. Viiala lies only half an hours ride to the south of Tampere, capital of the region. The main railway routes, with their end stations in Helsinki in the south and Turku on the west coast, run through Viiala. The motor highway nr. 3 (under construction) and highway nr. 9 shall meet right outside Viiala. There are over 5100 inhabitants in Viiala.
Where to go in Viiala
Viiala is surrounded by water. The Haihunkoski Rapids in the towncenter with the old stone bridge is a beautiful view.
Outside towncenter, the wide open Lake Vanajavesi is ready to take you to its sparkiling waters and peaceful
lakeshores. There is a public beach on the Lake Luttunen. A picnic or hiking tour to the Lake Arajärvi will take you the clearest waters, woods
for berry picking and mushrooming and fabulous hill sceneries.
There is a public sauna at the local camping site where you can have a bath every day during summertime; in wintertime the sauna is warmed up twice a week for the open air swimmers. After a refresing bath you can seek your way to the local dance hall, and experience moods of the Finnish popular music and the high feelings of the local people.
