Urjala lies 55 kilometers to the south of Tampere, capital of the region. There are numerous small
industries in this dynamic municipality, with traditional high-standard glassmaking and woodworking crafts well
represented. But, however reformist, Urjala has not forgotten its roots:
over 20 % of the population of 6000 still gain their income from agriculture and forestry. Urjala is rich also in cultural, especially
literary history.
