SUODENNIEMI IN BRIEF

SUODENNIEMI

Contact Information
Suodenniemi suomeksi

Suodenniemi is a bunch of pictoresque country villages situated in the western part of Tampere Region, around 60 kilometres from Tampere, capital of the region. There are around 450 holiday cottages to let in the municipality, many of them ideal for round-the-year holiday making.

For nature-lovers: 70 lakes and vast wilds

The nature around Suodenniemi offers splendid opportunities for hiking, berry picking, mushrooming, hunting, and fishing (obligatory fishing licences are issued by local fishing associations). With its gently rolling hills and woods and the clear-blue lakes, the nature is charmingly peaceful. In the south-western part of the area the flora is exceptionally rich, whereas in the northern parts there are wide, rugged-looking plots of peatland. There are also several beaches in the villages. Some of them have saunas beside the lake that you can hire for a night. Between Suodenniemi and the neighbouring municipality Lavia, there is a unique chain of lakes that has forged its way between the rocky hills. There's a spectacular view to the lakes from the Pirulanvuori hills.

The Museum of Local History and Culture includes a row of ancient residences with the connected outbuildings and a windmill. There's a shop selling local handicrafts in connection with the Museum. There are also two Farm House Museum in the villages with collections of old farming machinery and equipment.
