Thanks to all those who replied. As I know many people who use
rather
poor
fonts, feel free to forward this summary to any Polish mail lists to
which
you subscribe. Btw, in a couple of places I made some comments in
upper
case: this is only to differentiate my comment from the respondent's
text and
not to signify that I am shouting.

SUMMARY
=======

1) Apple: (anonymous ftp, see item 9 below as well)
=========
   [For those who do not know what ftp is, see
   any book on the Internet- Mohan]

At ftp.apple.com, get into the international system software
directory,
where you will find the Polish system 7.01. Download the fonts
disk(s)
and you will find, among others, Times CE and Helvetica CE, which
have
all the characters you need.

See directory : /dts/mac/sys.soft.intl/polish.7.0.1

2) Krakow: (screen fonts only)
==========
Available from:
    Thomas R. Ridley
    RIT Research Corp
    trrrc@rc.rit.edu
as a file that must be converted with BinHex 4.0)

3) Polis
========
.hqx file available from WOJTEK@EMBL-Hamburg.DE described as:

"an .hqx file containing a self-extracting archive, all made
with Compact Pro 1.34. You will find there two different types of
fonts.
One type uses the polish keyboard, which has a somewhat different
layout.
You will probably prefer the other kind which uses the 'option' key
to
get
the polish characters. I occasionally use the font in folder Polis.
It
does
notlook great but I can print them. I've found one bug in them - to
get the
polish "e," I have to press 'option e' twice. I haven't tried the
others."

4) Casady and Greene ($$)
====================
"Casady & Greene have in the past produced several fonts, both
bitmap
and postscript, appropriate for various eastern European languages,
including Polish, Czech, etc. (and Greek, Cyrillic etc...). I have
not
personally used these special fonts but I recall seeing them in the
literature from Casady & Greene (I use other fonts from them, which
are
of high quality). The latest phone listings I have are as follows:

408-484-9228 (general) 800-289-7555 (sales) 408-498-9218 (fax).

(Casady & Greene publish a volume of their Fluent
Laser Fonts for Eastern European languages. I recently
recommended them to someone In Winnipeg wanting a Czech font
and I think Polish is in the same set. The set was $152 Canadian
76 pounds sterling in Montreal plus 15 per cent tax but would
be cheaper in the US. )

5) Adobe Fonts (Free for Adobe users)
==============

"We have produced several fonts, I
think we have Helvetica, Times, Optima and Caslon in Polish
versions.
They are however made up for a Swedish keyboard layout, but I think
you
will find all polish characters on your UK keyboard.
They are modified Adobe fonts, so I wont charge you, if you honestly
tell me that you own the original font.
Mail me at "claes@gemini.ldc.lu.se" with info about which family
you'd
like, and I'll send it to you tomorrow.
