The Pot of Geraniums in which the still life seems almost to have left the interior for an existence in a landscape. The pattern of leaves and rhythm of blues subsume the implicit room in the sunlit, surrounding space. Only the edges of a window frame, table, and railing indicate an interior, as Gris foregoes the drama of the open window metaphor in favor of a purely sensuous rendering. Not inappropriately, Douglas Cooper has proposed the influence of Matisse in this brilliantly colored work.
