Some questions to consider when you contact a service provider:
- What connection services do they offer? Ask them to describe the service in detail (that is, until you understand what they are talking about).
- What is the cost?
- What is included in the cost?
- the circuit cost (installation and monthly charge)

- any maintenance (if so, what's included)
- a membership fee
- Is there any other kind of charge not included in the initial cost?
- What support services do they offer (NIC, NOC)? Ask them to explain what they mean by either organization.
- Do they fix the router when it's broken?
- Do they require 24-hour access to the physical location?
- Do they require that an on-site person be available to assist them?
- What training is available? Is it included in the above cost?
- Do they have an acceptable use policy?
- Do they hold an annual meeting?
- Do they have a full time, professional staff?
- Are there limitations to connecting to other parts of the Internet (that is, can you get everywhere you need to get)?
- Can they provide references of other clients?
