Most of the park is covered by Brachystegia woodlands, interspersed with grassy vleis and with some noteworthy specialised flora on the serpentinite soils of the Dyke. The park has some reintroduced mammals, mainly reedbuck. However, the lake has a good population of crocodiles and Ngezi has become a popular centre for crocodile research.
Accommodation facilities comprise lodges and campsites operated by the Department of National Parks and Wild Life. Ngezi was proclaimed a National Park in 1956 and redesignated a Recreational Park under the Parks and Wild Life Act (1975).
