Major Activities and Functions


Trade Information Service

The KFTA provides all kinds of information related to export-import business as well as trade and business counselling services.

A comprehensive on-line information network named KOTIS(Korea Trade Information Service) offers corporate subscribers and government agencies with up-to-date trade-related data bases such as economic and trade statistics, trade policy trends and market situations of foreign countries. KOTIS also offers domestic trade and industry trends and statistics, etc.

Experts at the KFTA offer all businessmen on-the-spot consultation and personalized advisory service regarding trade-related rules and regulations, procedures for exporting and importing, business management, market research, technology development, taxation, and so on. Besides counselling and advice, the KFTA also helps find a way to resolve difficulties and problems which members might face in international trading activities.

The Trade Library with more than 30,000 publications and over 1,000 periodicals is open to all visitors from 10:00 to 17:00 weekdays.



Trade Promotion

One of the most important functions of the KFTA is its trade inquiry service. The KFTA has well-trained staff woo are able to assist any visiting foreign buyers and sellers, and to respond to written inquiries from all over the world. You can receive personalized assistance in arranging meetings with Korean exporters, collecting information on Korean products and suppliers, and locating potential buyers for your products.

The KFTA explores new trade opportunities by dispatching trade missions and market survey teams to a number of foreign countries. We organize trade missions to be sent to Korea's major trading partner countries in order to promote bilateral trade expansion.

The KFTA also provides strong support for visiting foreign trade delegations so they can achieve their objectives in Korea. Business contacts with domestic traders and manufacturers are arranged and seminars on encouraging mutual investment are organized.



Trade Policy Research and Recommendations

Research is an essential part of the KFTA's activities. The KFTA collects information from its overseas branch offices and world-renowned think tanks and institutes to help its member companies keep up with the rapidly changing world economic environment.

The KFTA studies an extensive range of economic and business topics. It covers general economic issues such as long-term economic prospects and planning, economic policy, finance, taxation as well as external matters like international economic trends, balance of payments, exchange rates and tariffs, etc.

The KFTA makes frequent recommendations to the government of trade policy matters on behalf of its members. It also gives support to government with various industrial policy suggestions such as enhancement of international competitiveness and encouragement of R&D investment.

In addition, the KFTA's nine domestic branch offices are responsive to the special needs of regionally-based enterprises in the interest of promoting balanced economic development throughout all regions of Korea.



International Cooperation

The KFTA organizes and sponsors various seminars, workshops and other meetings to discuss diverse issues concerning international trade. It also invites foreign industrial leaders, specialists and other distinguished individuals to the KFTA to exchange views with key persons from the Korean business community.

In recognition of Korea's rising status in the international arena, the KFTA places special emphasis on developing and maintaining a close cooperative relationship with major international organizations including the GATT, UNCTAD, APEC, OECD and others.

The KFTA also operates the Secretariat for the Korean Shippers' Council. The Secretariat maintains close working ties with related international organizations in the interest of Korean shippers.

As a member of the World Trade Centers Association, the KFTA plays an important role in promoting world trade. It maintains a close working relationship with about 260 WTCs in 69 countries.

In addition, the KFTA's seven overseas branch offices, which are based in Washington D.C., New York, Tokyo, Brussels, Dusseldorf, Beijing and Hong Kong, are at the forefront of enhancing worldwide economic cooperation.



Publications and Daily Trade News

The KFTA publishes a large number of literature, references, periodicals and materials on a wide range of subjects related to economy, trade and products every year.

Intended for foreign businessmen interested in trading with Korea, the KFTA publishes "Korea Export," a comprehensive catalogue, and "Korean Trade Directory," a directory listing Korea's manufacturers, exporters and importers. "Korea Trading Post" features the latest trends of Major export industries and the selected listing of Korean suppliers.

Also published by the KFTA are periodicals featuring Korea's culture, tradition and economic news, and a couple of guidebooks containing useful information on doing business with Korea.

On the domestic side a trade bulletin "Daily Trade News" is published twice a day, morning and evening editions with a volume of some 60 pages on the average. The bulletin contains information on such rapidly changing issues as world trade policies, product and industry trends, technology development and every topic of concerns to businessmen engaged in international trade.



Trade Education and Training

The KFTA runs the International Trade Institute for the purpose of training corporate executives, managers and staff on various subjects related to international trade.

The ITI offers some thirty high-quality programs including a one-year, general trade practice program designed for high school and college graduates. A three-month foreign accommodation program caters to company staff assigned to overseas service. A week-long trade specialist program and customized training program are also offered.

Besides, the Institute sponsors individual lectures, courses, workshops and seminars to meet the educational needs of Korea's international business community. Among major courses are External Trade Law, International Exchange & Finance, Foreign Market Research Techniques, Foreign Consumer Behavior Analysis, International Conference English and Chinese Business Conversation.

The approximately five thousand people who annually complete programs are playing key roles in their own fields of international trade.

Trade Tower

- Comprehensive Trade Service Center -
The Trade Tower serves as the center of international trade and business activities in Korea. It houses more than 150 tenants engaged in international trade, including the Korea Trade Promotion Corporation(KOTRA), headquarters for most of the trade-related associations and cooperatives in Korea, and other supporting service businesses. These organizations are equipped to help you locate products and buyers and provide information on anything to do with Korean trade.


Korea Exhibition Center

- "All-Weather" Trade Show Facilities in Korea -
As an integral part of the Korea World Trade Center, the Korea Exhibition Center(KOEX) is probably the most ideal place to begin the search for a business partner in Korea, and may be one of the world's best venues for conventions, trade shows and exhibitions. The KOEX has three soccer-field-sized exhibition halls, some 41,000-square-meters of display halls and supporting facilities such as convention halls. Its exhibition and display halls are equipped with the latest high-tech facilities where any exhibition can be held whatever the size and type of products.


City Air Terminal

- The Easy Way to Travel -
The Terminal provides passengers with check-in service to save time at the airport. Issuing boarding passes, ticketing, and baggage X-ray checks are conveniently available at the Terminal. The Terminal also offers immigration passport control service for passengers. Passengers who have gone through passport control established by immigration officials at the Terminal can proceed to the Diplomat and Crew immigration counter at the Kimpo Airport. The non-stop limousine provides passengers with a deluxe ride, making round trips to/from the Airport and the Terminal every 10 minutes everyday.


Convention Facilities

- Fitting into Every Occasion -
The KWTC has the best and largest convention facilities in Korea. They include the huge Olympia Hall in the KOEX and various-sized conference rooms in the Trade Tower and the Hotel Inter¡¤Continental Seoul. These facilities accommodate all kinds of need for convention such as simultaneous interpretation, modern stage sets and a complete array of conference equipment.
