CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

Participants are kindly invited to submit abstracts for interesting sessions presentations. Abstracts will be
reviewed by the Steering Committee and the writer will be notified of the Committee's decision in due time.

Guidelines for abstract submission:,

1. Deadline for submission of abstracts is June 15, 1995.
2. Abstracts should include title (capital letters), author(s), institution and country.
3. Abstracts should contain a maximum of 200 words in double line-spacing on A4 paper in English.
4. Notification of acceptance will be announced by June 30, 1995
5. Abstracts will not be returned,
6. Faxed abstracts are not acceptable.
7. Confirmed abstracts will be distributed to participants at the Congress.
8. Abstracts will be printed exactly as submitted.

Language:
English will be the official language of the Congress.
Any group requiring simultaneous translation should apply to the Secretariat for consideration.

Climate
The average temperature in Tel Aviv in November is 12' ~ 19' C (54' ~ 67' F). Rain is possible.

Passports and Visas
For participants from most countries a visa to Israel is not necessary, but we suggest that you ask your
travel agent to check. For countries without diplomatic relations with Israel, please apply to the Israeli
Embassy or Consualte in the country nearest to your country of residence.
If it is not possible to contact a nearby Embassy, please write to the Secretariat, no later than 45 days prior
to the Congress, giving the following details: full name, date and place of birth, passport number, date and
place of issue and flight details. The Secretariat will do its utmost to ensure that a visa will await you at the
airport in Israel.

Letter of Invitation
The Organizing Committee will send a letter of invitation upon request. This invitation is intended to
facilitate participants travel and visa arrangements, and not a commitment on the part of the ISBC
organizer to provide financial support.

Health Regulations
There are no vaccination requirements for visitors entering Israel

Electrical Appliances
The electrical current in IsraelIis 220 Volts AC, single phase, 50 Hertz.
Most Israeli sockets are of the three-pronged variety, but many accomodate some European two-pronged
plugs as well
Electric shavers, travelling irons and other small appliances may require adapters and/or transformers,
which can be purchased in Israel.

Shopping
Several hundred shops throughout the country have been recommended by the Ministry of Tourism for
their high-quality merchandise and superior service. Such establishments display an emblem with the
writing: "Recommended by the Ministry of Tourism". These shops and others carry a wide variety of
suggested gifts, ranging from exclusive jewellery and diamonds to Oriental carpets; from fashionable
ladies' wear to elegant furs; from smart leather goods to modern paintings; antiques and contemporary
ceramics, as well as embroidery, batiks and countless other items. Visitors will also find all daily
necessities readily available.
There are duty-free shops at the Ben Gurion, Eilat and Ovda international Airports.
Most shops are open daily, Sunday through Thursday, from 09:00 to 19:00, although some close for a mid-
day break between 13:00 and 16:00. On Fridays and the eves of major Jewish Holidays, shops are open in
the morning and close early in the afternoon.
Moslem-owned establishments are closed on Fridays and Christian shops on Sundays.

Value Added Tax (VAT)
A value added tax (1 7% in 1993) is levied on all goods and services and is included in the quoted price.
Tourists are exempt from VAT on the following services if paid for in foreign currency: accommodation
(hotels,youth hostels, field schools and camping); organized tours, tourist care hire with driver-guide; car
rental, flights and tours operated by inland aviation companies; meals provided by tour operators during
organized tours, meals eaten in hotel restaurants by guests (and included in the hotel bill).
All goods and services purchased by tourists in Eilat are exempt from VAT.

Foreign Currency Discounts
(AND VAT REFUNDS)
Tourists who purchase goods (with foreign currency) exceeding US$ 50 in value at shops recommended by
the Ministry of Tourism are entitled to a discount of at least 5% off the purchase price at the shop and a VAT
refund at the port of departure.

Official Airline
El Al Israel Airlines is the official airline of the Congress, and its offices throughout the world will assist you
in making your travel arrangements.
