General Background and Description Trade Point:
The Shanghai Trade Point is UNCTAD's trade point set up in Shanghai with the agreement by
UNCTAD and the approval by the Chinese government. It carries out its work under the leadership of the
Shanghai Trade Efficiency Association STEA and the supervision and guidance of UNCTAD.
The STP takes the improvement of trade efficiency advocated by the Trade Efficiency Initiative
as its aim. It groups under the same roof the government departments related to foreign trade and the
service-providers intervening in foreign trade transaction such as customs, commodity inspections, banks,
foreign exchange control, insurance, transportation and information service etc. to co-handle the official
affairs and provide the information for trade and the services for foreign trade transactions, acting as the
bridge to connect the global trade network throughout the world.
Products and Services Offered:
Providing information consulting service, providing the service of trade transaction. The STP
will carry out actively the exploration and unitization of EDI (Electronic Data Interchange); the
improvement of information consulting, the establishment of integrated system of market and investment
investigation, analysis, forecast and consultation; the development of computer and tele-communication
and network. The STP will make efforts in simplification of trade procedures, the research and
experiments to raise the efficiency for trade. The STP will also develop the comprehensive exploration
and unitization of multi-operation including training, software exploration, multimedia application,
teleconference and electronic trade.
