ZAMBIA is politically and economically stable,
and with its' well maintained national parks system, it offers the visitor
the oppotunity to expereience its' incredible wealth of wildlife.
After thundering over the famous Victoria Falls and forming the massive
Lake Kariba, the legendary Zambezi River continues its' journey
eastward through the lower Zambezi National Park.
Here, in the valley between the imposing Zambezi escarptment
and the river, CHIAWA CAMP rests in the shade of a grove of
mohogany trees.
Our secure tents which are screened and comfortable, augment the
atmosphere of traditional safari life, while solar lighting, hot & cold
showers and flushing toilets help to ensure your personal hygiene and
convenience.
The excellent meals are taken in our thatched dining area overlooking the
river, and are prepared from fresh produce by our talented cooks.
After dinner, one can relax around the campfire with a cocktail from our
well stocked bar, exchanging tales of the day's adventures.
Our unique game viewing trips by motorboat are extremely popular and
affording safe, close viewing of one of the largest elephant populations
left in Africa.
Game drives are conducted in specially equipped 4 x 4 vehicles
with 2 way radios. On the night drives it is not uncommon for our
spotlight to pick out a pride of lions on a kill, or a leopard on the
prowl.
For those wanting a bit more excitement, walks led by armed and
experienced guides will reveal to you some of nature's best kept secrets.
The Zambezi Valley hosts a wide variety of birdlife.
From the majestic lone fish eagle to colonies of countless carmine bee-eaters,
avid birdwatchers will be kept pleasantly busy.
This is not an over-commercialized area, enabling us to
personalize each Safari to suit your individual/group requirements.
The Zambezi River offers sensational fishing to angling
enthusiats. Caught on light tackle and fly rigs, the tigerfish attracts
sportsmen from around the globe and is considered to be the worlds
finest fighting freshwater fish.
CHIAWA CAMP uses barbles hooks and enforces a strict
catch and release policy, only keeping those fish requested to be mounted.
Although tigerfish are caught year round, they are at their fiercest
in the warmer months of September and October.
At CHIAWA CAMP, you will find that conservation
is a way of life and we strive for the continued protection of one of Africa's
last true wilderness. A large portion of our revenue is reinvested into programs
supporting conservation and wildlife education.
Your visit to CHIAWA CAMP is not only an investment
in yourself, but also a contribution to a secure future for the
Zambezi Valleys' bountiful yet vulnerable wildlife.
CHIAWA CAMP is accessible from Lusaka by a 250 km scenic
road and river trip or by a 30 minute private air charter.
Although remote, CHIAWA CAMP has radio communications with
our Lusaka headquraters.
