E. TRADE EVENT SCHEDULE The following international trade exhibitions, named after the cities in Nigeria in which they take place, are general industrial trade fairs which reflect numerous sectors in the Nigerian market. These events attract buyers, traders, agents and distributors from throughout Central and West Africa. They offer U.S. manufacturers which are already selling to the Nigerian market opportunities to promote and further expand sales of U.S.-origin products and equipment. These trade events are held annually and foreign manufacturers, exporters and their agents and distributors are welcome to participate. LAGOS International Trade Fair (November) ENUGU International Trade Fair (April) KADUNA International Trade Fair (February) Information regarding any of these three international Nigerian trade events may be obtained from: Nigeria Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) 15A Ikorodu Road, Maryland P.M.B. 12816 Lagos, Nigeria Tel: (234) (1) 496-4727 Fax: (234) (1) 496-4737 Contact: Mr. Lawrence O. Adekunle, Director General The annual Lagos Motor fair, Automania, is held each fall, and offers a significant opportunity for entering or expanding market presence in this important segment of Nigeria's economy. The fair also offers growing opportunities in nearby markets that are more difficult to penetrate individually due to their small size, because it attracts traders from throughout Nigeria and from surrounding Central and West African countries. 1994 LAGOS MOTOR FAIR: September 23 - October 2, 1994 Automania (Nigeria) Ltd. 11 Alade Avenue Off Obafemi Awolowo Way Opposite Airport Hotel P.O. Box 10830 Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria Tel/Fax: (011) (234) (1) 497-0052 Contact: Mrs. Yewande Ayo, General Manager American manufacturers not currently exporting to the Nigerian market may also benefit from a visit to an international Nigerian trade fair. Such visits offer the opportunity to further assess the market and the competition as well as the appropriateness of the event as an exhibition forum for expanding sales once an agent or distributor in Nigeria has been secured. This is especially true since Nigeria is rapidly emerging as the major distribution center for the entire Central and West African and sub-Sahara region whose smaller, individual markets and less well developed distribution channels may not justify U.S. marketing efforts aimed at penetrating such markets directly. Therefore, utilizing an international Nigerian trade fair to assess export sales opportunities to the Nigerian market may also assist U.S. suppliers to assess, penetrate and achieve sales in surrounding markets beyond Nigeria's borders. A visit by a non-exhibiting U.S. exporter to an international Nigerian trade fair may also help to identify, but not qualify, potential agents and distributors, essential for getting U.S. exports into the Nigerian market. In any case, an international trade event should always be visited first and assessed, before a participation decision is taken.
