B. BEST PROSPECTS FOR AGRICULTURE
   AND INDUSTRIAL SECTOR EXPORTS

The Latvian market appears to hold the most potential for
American consumer products, computers and office equipment,
building supplies, agricultural products and seeds, and capital
goods.  See section II for discussion of factors affecting the
outlook for U.S. trade.  Best prospects for agriculture and
industry exports to Latvia include:

-- office supplies and equipment, particularly computers,
   cellular telephones, copiers, and fax machines;

-- machinery and equipment, including metering devices, for power
   generation and district heating;

-- machinery and equipment for the modernization of light
   industry, particularly textiles, timber and wood products;

-- building materials, including paint, doors, windows, locks,
   plumbing fixtures and supplies, lighting and alarm systems and
   sheetrock;

-- in agribusiness, food-packaging and -processing equipment,
   water- purification equipment for commercial and institutional
   users, commercial freezers and display cases;

-- agricultural products that are not produced in Latvia,
   including cotton, tobacco, rice, commercial seeds for farming,
   frozen poultry and pork; and

-- convenience foods, snacks and beverages (alcoholic beverages,
   soft drinks, and juices).
