V. Marketing U.S. Products Although there are no official commercial contracts with American enterprises yet, there is a great demand for American goods and services. U.S. Products have reached the Capeverdean market either through bilateral cooperation projects, or informally through the Capeverdean community in the U.S. (New England mainly). There is one experience of a local businessman who, together with relatives residing in the U.S. have created an import/export company which has been supplying irregularly the local market with American products, namely foodstuffs. Distribution and marketing facilities are not yet fully developed, but a limited number of agents do currently conduct business with foreign firms. However, opportunities do exist for companies willing to develop their own marketing, distribution and maintenance networks. Branches of foreign companies may not be established until they are registered with the registrar of companies. Joint ventures are allowed and encouraged in many sectors, namely in the fisheries, airline business and telecommunications.
