This whitepaper includes technical specifications and system design required for the development of the ETO software.
The ETO Software should provide an user-friendly interface to (1) create ETOs, (2) convert ETO to the ETO format (3) send ETOs to the ETO Switch (4) receive ETOs from the ETO Switch and (5) store the ETOs in a local database.
The software uses client-server features and communicates with a database on the WWW on Oracle format. This database is interrogated by the PC front-end software each time a query is executed. The PC version will run on Windows and will sit on the top of Netscape or equivalent TCP-IP browser.
This Module will allow create New ETOs and Search Existing ETOs. Also from this menu the users will access the ETO Index (local index on existing records in the database) and the NewsGroup at the WWW. If a new record is at the Newsgroup this record will be downloaded directly to the software.

The search requires data which has been organised using the Harmonized System classification . There are four (4) levels of classification and as make a selection at each level the system will guide in the choice at the next level of classification. This search method enables to narrow the choices of classification to ensure an effective and quick search.

Country Window: The country window will display the list of Countries ( ISO-2) codes and description
After selecting the search query which includes AND. OR and NOT in the syntax, the software will search the ETO database and will display the number of hits on the selected serach criteria.
From the search window we move to the ETO Index which provides information on each record selected during the search query.
ETO Index: On the ETO Index screen, the matches found on previous query will be listed on alphabetical order with scrolling window showing each of the fields on the ETOs. The ETO Index will include the possibility to Print records, Tag selected records, Untag etc.
After selection of the company the following screen will show. In this screen we will find full details on each record, including the box with information on the Trade Lead (free-text).
From this window, we can have more information from the ETO, the free-text window will be replace by company informtaion window and product catalogue window alternatively. For navigate between windows we will use the 3 icons on the botton of previous screen.
After selecting the company and the print option in previous menu, the software will print the selected records with the following output structure:

The data entry can be done off-line using the above screen or online accessing directly the WWW, both operations will update the database automatically.

The Data Entry Screen will diplay a form with information on each ETO field (see report on ETO structuring in Aneex). From this ETO data entry screen users can entry ascii data and images, MIDI and AVI as attachment.
After selecting the type of Media for the ETO, the software will connect to the WWW using Netscape as communication sftware. Will search on the WWW ETO Visual product catalogues at http://www.unicc.org/untpdc/eto/samples/menu.html and will display the product selected and correspondent media. Once the product is display will also be copy to disk to allow the users to maintain a local database.

The user can now continue his work online using the WWW and hyperlink to selected areas of the ETO Visual, eg. Company Overview, product information, country overview and order the product. This functions will be piloted from the ETO software but available on the WWW.
By selection the product information icon, full information of the product will be downloaded to disk including the media available for the product. In some cases the information will be disseminated on CD\ROM for TP with slow Internet connections.
The ETO matrix displays the Trade Opportunities in a matrix format. It classifies the latest ETOs per product group, country, type of trade opportunity (offer/demand) and company. It then links to the new ETO Email tagged structure available at the ETO Usergroups. The matrix main menu includes a counter with the number of the latest ETOs posted.

The above panel will be linked to the ETO Index per product and service category. After selecting a company and product the system will connect to the ETO NewsGroup and will point to the specific group selected by the user.
