This version 3.3.1a differs from version 3.3.1 in only one point: It changes the
default state of the preferences option "Get all Clicks on Palette" to be
initially turned off.
Some users encountered a freeze with ClarisWorks, MS-Excel, Eudora, MS Word and
Metrowerks Codewarrior on some desktop Power Macs when this option is on. So we
now have it off by default.
CopyPaste is a very useful utility and clipboard extension. It adds 10
clipboards
to the one you already use. This may not sound like much but if you think about
it what is the one thing that everyone does on their computer? Besides typing!
Copying and pasting of course. CopyPaste adds the ability of copying many items
at a time and then going elsewhere to paste all those items. Its not radical but
it certainly makes life for writers, editors and graphic artists easier. If you
haven't tried it please download it free from our site above and see what its
like. Most people who try it say "Why didn't Apple orthe whatchamacallit company
that made Windows think of this?" There is lots more to CopyPaste like
application switching, text processing, clipboard archives (very handy in
Netscape) and it also remembers that last 10 items you copied in the regular
clipboard. Since your a busy professional you may feel that this sounds like a
good story but not something you need yourself. Wrong! Ask any CopyPaste user or
try it you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Subject: [*] Helios LanTest 2.0.0 - File Server Performance Evaluation Tool
Helios LanTest is an utility designed to test file server performance in a
Macintosh environment. It tests the following operations:
* Creating 100 files of 20KB each * Opening and closing 100 files. * Remove 100
files. * Write 3 MB to a file. * Read 3 MB from a file. * Lock and unlock 4000
records. * Read a directory containing 320 entries. * Print a 3 MB PostScript
file to the selected printer.
For faster networks (e.g. 100baseT) the size of the 3 MB file can be
increased to
30MB.
The utility can perform a mixture of these tests using a given number of times
and display the timings as well as an average. All results are written into an
ASCII logfile as well. The utility will count the number of concurrently running
LanTest from the same settings document.
As all benchmarks, the results must be interpreted carefully and all test
parameters should be documented together with the results.
Changes since version 1.1:
* Fat binary. * Printer performance test. * Support for AppleScript. * Can now
save the test settings in a settings document, this makes it easier to load all
the same settings in a multi-user test. * Added a preference for faster
networks,
3MB files do not stress the 100Mbit networks enough. * Fixed a crashing bug with
AppleShare client 3.7.
Known Limitations:
* Testing through the LocalTalk port can distort the test result considerably as
the Mac's clock is stopped too long from the LocalTalk driver. This appears to
depend upon Mac model.

and modules, contacts for home automation magazines, etc. For less than $60 and

ICeTEe 2 by Michael Schuerig, 1997
This is an enhanced version of the ICeTEe goody included with Internet Config by
Peter N. Lewis and Quinn "The Eskimo". You need to have Internet Config
anyway to
use ICeTEe 2 so please have a look at their ReadMe as well. The information
therein applies as well.
Usage
Drop ICeTEe 2 into your Extensions folder (and remove the original ICeTEe
if it's
installed). ICeTEe 2 is active after you restart your Mac. Then it works
the same
as ICeTEe: you can command-click a URL almost everywhere to open it in the
appropriate helper application as set in Internet Config. The additional
functionality is that if you hold down the option key the URL is not launched,
but instead it is send to a bookmark helper application.
Included is a very simple AppleScript application that understands this bookmark
message. On the first launch you are prompted to select a folder where to put
your URLs. URLs send to this message get saved as a Netscape Navigator=81
document. When you open this document Navigator tries to open the contained URL.
Version 2b5 fixes a bug introduced while fixing a bug in 2b3 (problem with
trailing dots in URLs).

module already contains more than 2000 nouns, and you can add your own nouns to

Subject: [*] Language Toolkit Reader 1.2.1 - foreign languages learning tool
Language Toolkit Writer and Reader are a pair of programs for the
preparation and reading of the foreign language interactive multimedia
lessons. With Language Writer you can prepare the interactive lessons in
minutes. To set up a lesson you just use the set of predefined multimedia
items specially designed for foreign languages study. You can just
drag-and-drop these items into the convenient locations in the lesson's
window, paste pictures, movies, record sound, and enter sentences,
translation, grammar notes or vocabulary into the proper boxes. These
lessons can be viewed with the Reader program by the final user then. There
are also 4 predefined exercise layouts for designing the foreign language
exercises easily.
With Language Reader you can browse the interactive lessons, listen
sounds, read translation, explanation, dictionary notes and more. You can
also perform foreign language exercises. The program allows you to use the
"Verbs & Nouns"
dictionaries as well.

Idea Keeper is a List, To Do, and Note Management Program for the
Macintosh. Use it to keep lists of important ideas, keep notes organized,
and manage to do
lists. This program is very loosely based on the program "Stickies". I have
added to this program most of the features which I thought "Stickies"
should have but doesn't (including support for pictures, multiple "sets" of
notes, stylized text, and more).
Idea Keeper works by allowing you to create individual "ideas" which are stored
in "topics". In Idea Keeper an idea has a name which is displayed in a
list, and a window in which you can store details. A topic is a set of
ideas. At any
given time, Idea Keeper displays a single topic, allowing you to quickly
organize and view the ideas it contains. You can easily move between
topics, and copy or move individual ideas between topics.
Ideas can be printed, exported as text files, or imported from text files.
Topics can be exported or imported as folders of text files corresponding
to each individual idea.

Mac Restart is a utility for Macintosh Server. Mac Restart let you
automatically restart your Mac at a prefixed time. This is ideal for Mac
which runs continuously and need a automatic restart at regular interval
time. Mac Restart let you select the time at which automatically restart
your Mac and wich method to use betwen 'Soft Restart' and 'Hard Restart'.
The 'Soft Restart' is quite polite and will quit all your active
application via AppleEvent before restarting as if you use the 'Restart'
command in the finder. The 'Hard Restart' is instead quite 'brutal'. It
restarts your Mac without advising your running applications.
Mac Restart will display a window reporting at which time your Mac will be
restarted and using which method. When Mac Restart is in the background it
changes its time requested to the CPU to run, this to not hog your Mac and leave
to your server all the power it needs to carry its work. Also Mac Restart a
prefixed time before the restart, will flash a small dot on its window to inform
you restart time is approching. All the setting are changeable in any moment via
a dialog and are saved in preference file. This is version 1.2 with new features
and bug fix.

Enclosed for your consideration is MacFloater.c and MacFloater.h, a couple of
source files which should help write Mac applications which use floating
windows.
Note that you need to include the Infinity Windoid WDEF resource with any
application built with these files; the enclosed source files only help make the
Windoid float.
This is totally uncopyrighted freeware--which means that though I wrote
them (and
lifted^H^H^H^H^H based the code on an article in Develop), I am putting them out
there completely free of any restrictions whatsoever.
Just think of me when you use the code.

Apple didn't release its speech synthesis in the mp2000, but did release voice
recording. My program and recommended hardware will get you some of the features
of the new mp2000 in case you are waiting for the 2010 with more speech
recognition like I am. I made a little program to make all the newton message
pads be able to talk just a little (I may work out a crude phonetics
newtonscript
plugin later). You may recall they didn't support pict 2's and after I did they
came up with newton press which I enjoyed pict 2's in. I hope I maybe inspire
them again. My tiny program takes a system 7 file, the kind you get by dragging
an alert from the system or convert from a simplesound recording with freeware
SoundApp 2.2.3, and turns it into a slurpee file that can be put into the newton
sound soup with newton running slurpee. To see that the sound works, you might
use bitsound, freeware available on Steve Weyer's pages. Well, now I've gotten
"line in" for <$1000. What about lineout? Used radio shack telephone pickup on
tiny newton speaker (Radio Shack Cat. No. 44-533 B with 1/8 " miniplug). About
$6. Radio Shack also has $10 tiny amplifier-speaker for phone pickups that works
admirably with above (if you set the volume down a bit to miss processor noise),
Catalogue # 277-1008C. I continue to develope a gps navigation program for the
trimble scoutmaster connecting with NMEA sentences. Few people own such an
expensive gps unit, so I am, so far, my only beta tester. Speech recognition and
synthesis will go nicely with my program.

touchMe is an application program to change the creation and/or

time stamp of any Macintosh files or folders. It is like Unix command "touch".
To run the program, it requires System 7.1 or later. Under System 7.5,

with command-key pressed. Fixed for sure! - New. The text strings can be put

WWWStat4Mac 1.5 - is a simple application designed to process the log files from
httpd4Mac. It will also process log files from any application that outputs log
files in the 'common log format'. This includes some UNIX and PC web servers. So
if you have a UNIX or PC web server you might be able to process the log
files on your Mac :-) WWWStat4Mac is Shareware ($10). If you continue to
use it you should pay for it. Please read the document WWWStat4Mac

information on how to register WWWStat4Mac. WWWStat4Mac requires system 7.0 or

Enclosed for your consideration is YAAF: Yet Another Application Framework.
Okay, okay, so you're probably saying "why bother?" I mean, aren't there a bunch
of those around here now?
Well, the difference is that this is a freeware C++ framework which helps create
applications which run under both the Macintosh and under Microsoft Windows.
I pull this stunt off by creating a thin wrapper which contains code for the
event loop in the Win32 API, and the Macintosh OS event loop. And I put in
a thin
wrapper to handle windows, views, printing, and the menu bar.
Also included is a separate library which implements standard controls as YAAF
views.
This is freeware, covered by the GNU Library General Public License. Which means
that you are free to build whatever application you want, including commercial
applications.
This is an alpha version of the library, meaning that there are a few features
that still need to be flushed out. But the event loop, view and window
encapsulation are pretty stable.
The libraries, including a few simple programs, are binhexed and stuffit'ed.

Subject: SEND equivalent on Macs with PPP?
Hello and welcome back, Digesters!
An experience I had this morning prompts this question. I was logged in
from home via my modem/ppp connection, and checked my e-mail. I got one
from a friend, and we sent a few e-mails back and forth.
Back in the days when I used a terminal program to dial up a VAX for
internet access (I was dbecker@macalstr.edu then) we had the SEND
command. If another user was logged in, you could cause a one-line
message to appear on their screen, no matter what they were doing. I
guess AOL can do this, too, but I don't use it that much.
Anyway, if I wanted my friends to be able to get my attention and start a
conversation while I was on-line, what should I run whenever my PPP
connection is open? Ideally, it would be something that a PC user could
use to communicate. Internet voice phones won't do the trick; most of the
people on the other end of this communication don't have computers which
can handle it. We're looking for a simple, text solution.
Anyone with suggestions, please include pointers to where I can find more
information. If I get good answers, I'll summarize, of course!
