sean `puffy' combs leaves grand jury proclaiming his innocence

(01-04) 14:07 PST NEW YORK (AP) -- Rap mogul Sean ``Puffy'' Combs left a Manhattan grand jury Tuesday declaring that he is innocent of felony gun charges filed against him after a Times Square nightclub shooting.

``I came here to tell the truth,'' Combs said after testifying before the panel. ``I am 100 percent innocent and the charges against me are 100 percent false. I hope they will be able to see that.''

Combs, 30, refused to discuss his testimony.

A source involved with the case said on condition of anonymity that Combs testified that he knew nothing about the weapon recovered inside a sports utility vehicle he and his girlfriend, actress-singer Jennifer Lopez, were riding in after the shooting.

Combs was arrested on weapons charges on Dec. 27 shortly after three people were wounded by gunfire around 2:30 a.m. at Club NY.

Police said they stopped the vehicle Combs and Ms. Lopez fled in after it ran a red light about 10 blocks from the club. Police said they found a .9-mm handgun on the floor of the SUV.

Ms. Lopez appeared before the grand jury on Thursday. She was already at the courthouse when Combs arrived Tuesday and left apparently without being recalled to testify.

Combs, the head of Bad Boy Entertainment, is free on $10,000 bail and is due back in court on Feb. 14.

A lesser-known rapper called Shyne, whose real name is Jamal Barrow, was charged in the club shooting with three counts of attempted murder.
