Re: An anonymous, fradulent letter about the 'B-Boy Summit' and Staff
Recently there has been a one page, unsigned letter cicrulating throughout the Hip-Hop community that attempts to discredit the 'B-Boy Summit' event. 'Asia One' it's founder and 'Eternal Two Creations' the company, or as the letter states, "the so-called promoters"w ho make the event possible. The letter first states that the event was held at the "World Beat Center." This is the first false statement.
Obviously whoever wrote this did not even attend the 'Summit' or they would have known that the event was actually held at the 'Balboa Park Club' in San Diego. There was to be an after party for the 'Summit' at the 'Worldbeat,' but due to a problem between the San Diego Police and the venue owner, we (the promoters) were forced to change locations at the last minute.
Secondly the letter claims that we "used other groups names and logos to get labels sponsorships and support from the Hip-Hop Nation." This is again false, the only names ever mentioned are invited guests listed on the Mission Statement. In no way are these names used to gain revenue for the event. Sponsorship is obtained through Sponsorship Packets containing all requirements, info, deadlines, as well as literature on previous 'Summits'.
The letter claims that the promoters "used the name of a righteous organization for their own personal use." 'Zulu Nation' , of course, (what is the writer trying to hide?), has always been involved in the 'B-Boy Summit'. Members of Zulu Naton have always helped organize and host the 'Summit', but it has always been 'Asia One's' event and has always remained absolutely free of charge. It has been a tradition for the past 3 years to have other related events, like the Afterparty and the Graf-show, that through a small fee(s) raise revenue for the 'B-Boy Summit'.
The letter then says that the "TWO NIGHTS of the supposed event were canceled" and that "those who contributed or put up sponsorships did not receive a refund or compensation." The events in question did get shut down, due to illegal and unjust actions by the S.D.P.D. contributions donated by sponsors were put towards the 'B-Boy Summit' (the free, daytime event, which has been overlooked and is the reason for the entire weekend, not to mention costs over $10,000 to make happen) and not toward the nighttime parties. The evening events, though affiliated but never said to be free, are separate and require No sponsorship money. The only funds used for the evening events are that of 'Eternal Two Creations'.
The letter blantantly attacks 'Asia One' and states, "In her promotions and advertising she first promised the public that the entire event was to be free." And it was, (meaning the 'B-Boy Summit'). "The week preceding the event, she then decided that she wanted to do pre-sales of after parties and other related events." False again, we always intended to charge money for the evening events and said so on the info lines.
The letter also says, "Weeks later, she has not refunded the sponsors who supported the events or the fans who paid at the door." First of all, nobody paid at the door. Secondly, on the night of the scheduled AfterParty, (after announcing on the info-lines that it had been canceled), we went to Behind the Post Office (a local clothing store) and proceeded to give people; cash refunds, free 'Summit '97' t-shirts, or the chance to use the tickets for the Sunday night party (not affiliated with the 'Summit'). The sponsors, whom were all pleased at the amount of exposure they received, had gotten exactly what they had paid for as per the Sponsorship Packets, and through the success of the 'B-Boy Summit' daytime event. They were in no need of any refund.
'Eternal Two Creations' has received nothing but positive comments, from the sponsors, regarding the event. Thus, who is this person(s) speaking for and why have they chosen to hide by not revealing their name and address? How is the reader supposed to believe something that isn't even signed? Finally the letter pleads to it's readers to, "not support this oppurtunist and support those who truly represent." Represent what? Hip-Hop? If we and our event does not represent this culture than I don't know what does! If you've been to a "B-Boy Summit" you'll know what I mean. I challenge this person(s) to come forward and present evidence to substantiate their slanderous accusations! Then we'll see who is Truly Representing.
Sincerely,
Easy Roc
